Presentation:
The performer begins by choosing a random volunteer from the audience. The volunteer is given numbered cards to shuffle and select one card face down, and put into his/her pocket. The remaining cards are handed back to performer and set aside.
The performer then introduces to the audience his/her set of completely identical knives, explains that the knives are sharp and real. They demonstrate the sharpness with stabbing a piece of paper and tearing it. Afterwards, they proceed to explain that only one of these knives is different, it has a retractable blade. This means that if stabbed against anything, the blade would retract causing no harm to the item or person.
The performer then continues to mix up all the knives, thus loosing the "safe" knife amongst the deadly ones. They then walk over to a board with numbered slots for each knife, and sets a knife in each place.
Finally, the volunteer is asked to reveal which number they had selected at the beginning of the performance..for instance #4. The performer removes knife #1.. explains that having such an amazing connection with their volunteer was able to tell them that "this was Not their knife", and stabs the knife into a board (or more theatrical use a watermelon). The performer proceeds to do this to knife #2 & #3.
Now only Knife #4 and #5 remain. The performer reminds the volunteer of their connection, reminds the audience of one of these knives is safe and one deadly, and you are so positive of your bond that you are willing to risk your own life to test it. The performer picks up the selected numbered knife, says "I am without a doubt 100% positive that THIS is YOUR knife!" and lunges it into their chest! After a brief pause, the performer reveals the knife was in fact the "Safe" knife, and stabs the last remaining knife into the board.
A true breath taking effect when performed, gives such a thrilling climax that leaves your audience wondering and amazed!
