One of the Ken Brooke classics from the "Golden Years!" A great pitch that is refreshing and unique compared to other shell games in terms of the apparatus provided and routine.

This new and improved version comes with a very clever idea by Ken Perks, and is an updated variation of the "Old Army Game" (The Three shell Game), but with a "DOUBLE-KICKER ENDING" actually, it has an MULTI-KICKER ENDING!

Effect: You all probably know the 3 SHELL GAME. Tweezers is a tremendously unique variation of this classic game, which is still popular today! Which cap is the pea under?

You start with three copper caps and the Perfect Pea. Incorporating a bit of hustling where you show the "sucker/pigeon" how they can win by simply guessing which cap covers the pea! "Follow the pea - take the money from me!" (The performer announces.)

But the spectator seems to have trouble and can't find the pea. So the magician removes one cap using only two caps - "Now you have a 50% chance!" He then asks the spectator to choose one of the caps, then has the "spectator" put the pea under it. The magician covers that cap with a "larger" cap, making it "impossible" for anyone to gain access to the pea inside.

The spectator is asked to place their finger on top of the green cap, and the magician is going to transpose the pea inside to the other cap resting a foot away. The spectator turns over the double caps; sure enough the pea has vanished! The magician is confident as he turns over the other cap; only there is NO pea there either!

At this point the magician points to another cap (that has been sitting there all the while) and upon turning it over, there is a smaller cap under it, and in fact 4 more smaller - nested caps (total of 6)! The last cap is so tiny -- but sure enough -- it houses the pea! In fact the cap is so small - the pea must be removed using TWEEZERS!

Of course, the magician says, "A lot of people think I use two peas' - and they're right!" Upon which he turns over the larger green cap that was just used, and produces a much larger ball as a Final load! This routine just keeps providing fun and laughs with an incredible effect as well!

Effect: The performer displays an empty glass. Red liquid is poured into the glass. With a magical gesture, the glass is turned over and a red silk is retrieved out of the glass. Ensconced subliminally in the psyche of every mentalist is the desire to foretell destiny. Nostradamus, Count Cagilostro, and more recently Edgar Cayce are but a few of the mortals rumored to have possessed prophetic powers. Now you can transcend these luminaries with an effect that truly borders on the paranormal! Mastermind is an enigma of such spellbinding magnitude that it will transform the most critical skeptics into steadfast believers! What follows is an eyewitness account of this extraordinary phenomenon-Believe!

EFFECT
A registered and notarized envelope is mailed to the mayor of your town seven days before your show is to take place. Inside this single, ungimmicked envelope is a single, ungimmicked playing card with a blue back. The mayor is instructed to keep the envelope in his possession and not let anyone tamper with it. (In fact, no one ever does, and there is never any switching of envelopes or cards ever throughout the entire routine.)

On the night of your show, a red-backed deck of cards is freely shown. Each of the cards is absolutely different, and the deck is honestly shuffled and fairly cut. (Note, there are no long or short cards, no roughed cards, no stacked arrangements, no marked cards, no stripped cards, no crimps, no false counts, and no sleight of hand involved whatsoever!) The deck quite honestly appears ordinary in every respect. It is openly ribbon-spread face-up on the table, offering a bird's-eye view that each card is in fact different.

Once the mayor is satisfied that the cards are thoroughly mixed, they are then ribbon-spread face down, allowing for an uninhibited, free choice of any card. Note, the selection here is immaculately clean. To repeat, ANY card may be selected! The card the mayor himself slides out of the deck is immediately turned face-up. Let's say it is the three of hearts. The mayor himself opens the prediction envelope that is still in his possession, and inside is the one card-a matching three of hearts! The "impossible" has just occurred!

Now for the unprecedented test conditions:

Pete's Peepers have been off the market for over 20 years, originally released by Ken Brooke, Pete Biro's thimble routine plays strong, is angle proof and requires little skill.

The original version featured a 6-inch long thimble for the climax, but over time Pete refined the routine and found that a good "STACK" of thimbles to finish the routine made more sense and played stronger. Only a small number of sets produced and Stevens Magic has the exclusive on them (Thanks for Alan Wong). In the classic rings and coin illusion, two rings are shown on a small mat. A card and a coin are introduced. The coin is placed on the mat, one ring is covered with a card then the second ring is placed on top of the card. The rings and card are placed over the coin. Wave over the rings, remove the card and the coin has disappeared! There is nothing to be seen other than two empty rings, a card and two empty hands. Reverse the actions and the coin magically reappeared under the rings on the mat. Effect:
Pete Biro removes 10 marbled blocks of wood from a beautifully decorated hardwood box. The pieces form a rectangle 14 by 12 cm, around which a white frame fits exactly - a puzzle.

Pete tells the crowd that in addition to purchasing this beautiful puzzle box, he also purchased an expensive potion (in which he then displays a small bottle containing liquid), at a much higher sum then the puzzle box.

Joe Stevens at Stevens Magic assured me that it was the original elixir, which Merlin, himself concocted. Without the elixir no one could ever figure out the puzzle.

Just for fun, Pete decides to try and solve the puzzle without using the potion - and to his amazement and disappointment, he is able to do it without using so much of a dram of the magical elixir! Pete, thinking realizing how much he spent of the special potion, immediately runs back to Stevens Magic to lay into Joe for selling him expensive elixir that he didn't even need!

Joe greets Pete and says, "Please calm down! I forgot to give you one of the pieces of the puzzle!" Once again, Pete leaves Stevens Magic and goes home with the extra piece. He gets out his bottle of expensive potion, but before he opens it he again tries to solve it first (without using the potion) - once again he succeeds! Now he is really mad!

He returns to Stevens Magic and this time Joe says, "I'm sorry Pete, you're not going to believe me but I actually forgot to give you this additional extra piece too!"

Once more Pete returns home with the 2nd extra piece of the puzzle and of course, tries to assemble it again without the potion and - once again he is successful! He gets on the phone and calls Stevens Magic and asks Joe, "Why did you sell me this magical elixir with the puzzle?" Joe replied, "Look, you have added two pieces to the puzzle - and it is still exactly the same size it was when you started (at which time Pete places the rectangular frame around the puzzle) and once again, it fits perfectly! But how can this be? It worked the first time, and then the second time with an extra piece added and even the third time with the second extra piece! Pete replied, "How in world is this possible?"

In which Joe responded, "In order to find this out, you will need to take a couple drinks of that magical elixir!"

The instructions do suggest that you use .046 (1.1mm) lead with a touch of SuperGlue, to better secure te lead into place. I have been using .9mm (HB) lead as it is more readily available with a dab of SuperGlue gel).

INTRODUCTION
Ensconced subliminally in the psyche of every mentalist is the desire to foretell destiny. Nostradamus, Count Cagilostro, and more recently Edgar Cayce are but a few of the mortals rumored to have possessed prophetic powers. Now you can transcend these luminaries with an effect that truly borders on the paranormal! Mastermind is an enigma of such spellbinding magnitude that it will transform the most critical skeptics into steadfast believers! What follows is an eyewitness account of this extraordinary phenomenon-Believe!

EFFECT
A registered and notarized envelope is mailed to the mayor of your town seven days before your show is to take place. Inside this single, ungimmicked envelope is a single, ungimmicked playing card with a blue back. The mayor is instructed to keep the envelope in his possession and not let anyone tamper with it. (In fact, no one ever does, and there is never any switching of envelopes or cards ever throughout the entire routine.)

On the night of your show, a red-backed deck of cards is freely shown. Each of the cards is absolutely different, and the deck is honestly shuffled and fairly cut. (Note, there are no long or short cards, no roughed cards, no stacked arrangements, no marked cards, no stripped cards, no crimps, no false counts, and no sleight of hand involved whatsoever!) The deck quite honestly appears ordinary in every respect. It is openly ribbon-spread face-up on the table, offering a bird's-eye view that each card is in fact different.

Once the mayor is satisfied that the cards are thoroughly mixed, they are then ribbon-spread face down, allowing for an uninhibited, free choice of any card. Note, the selection here is immaculately clean. To repeat, ANY card may be selected! The card the mayor himself slides out of the deck is immediately turned face-up. Let's say it is the three of hearts. The mayor himself opens the prediction envelope that is still in his possession, and inside is the one card-a matching three of hearts! The "impossible" has just occurred!

  If you are unfamiliar with the mental epic effect, or need a fast reminder... here it is:

EFFECT: The magician shows a wallet that has a metal board with six squares on it. He then explains that the top line of squares is the magician's, while the bottom line belongs to the spectator.

For his first thought, the spectator is asked to think about a name of someone from his past. The magician writes the prediction in the first square and covers it with magnetic lid number 1.

In the next square, the spectator is asked to think about a very significant date from his past, and while the magician looks and concentrates on his eyes, he writes another prediction under lid number 2. The spectator writes his date in his square.

In the last square, the magician writes the name of a certain card and covers it with lid number 3. He asks the spectator to choose a card from a deck. The chosen card is written in the last square.

Finally, all magnetic lids are removed to show that all the magician's predictions were correct and match the spectator's thoughts.

The mentalist turns around and by concentration and psychic powers is able to determine which cup the Egg is in by SMASHING three of the large cups that do NOT contain the Egg, which leaves the one remaining as THE correct cup. The Egg can then be opened to show that it is a real egg!

U-235 has always had a warm spot in my collection. The first time I saw this effect, I was blown away.... well, I was 16 and I could be blown away quite easily back then. BUT, even today, this is a real fooler.
Thanks to Alan at Owen Magic Supreme for allowing us to resurrect this wonderful old classic which has become a rare collectable and difficult to obtain.... Up until now!

EFFECT: The performer talks about the early testing implements used back in the 50's to test uranium and molecular fusion, etc., all steps to creating the Atomic Bomb. "The apparatus you see before you was one of the first attempts at atomic restructuring and I would like to demonstrate this incredible mystery. Very few people outside of the Atomic Energy Commission (and Floyd Thayer) have ever seen this demonstrated. Watch closely as you won't believe your eyes.

Note this solid piece of ¼-inch plate glass. A breech in the glass would be quite evident. Also, note these two aluminum reactor cylinders. We will sandwich the solid glass between the two cylinders and we will use this solid steel ball to demonstrate the properties discovered so long ago.

....Watch and listen as you hear the solid steel ball make with contact with the solid glass sheet and then, watch as it's seconds later it penetrates that solid sheet of glass."

Setting action to words, the tubes are assembled with the ¼-inch sheet glass in the middle. The steel ball is dropped into the upper tube and a resounding clang is heard as metal strikes glass. Then a second or two later the ball is seen and heard to come crashing down through the glass an onto the plate below.

This is an exact replica of the original Thayer unit. You are supplied with the two anodized aluminum tubes, the ¼-inch plate glass, the 5/8-inch steel ball and ceramic plate plus complete directions. The entire effect is supplied in a custom foam lined box to protect all the parts. The ¼-inch plate glass sheet has had the edges hand polished and ground to perfection. Effect: The performer is able to link two regular ropes (one red, the other white) "inside the box" while both rope ends remain outside the box! In fact, he can even have the spectator hold the two ends while the magic happens.

While there are a variety of routines that can be performed, the standard is where you link these two ropes several times, in different ways, all the time when the ends of the ropes are outside of the box and in total and absolute view of the spectators.

In fact, on one of the several attempts, you can actually open up the lid of the box so the spectators can not only see the ends of all the ropes are outside the box, but by looking inside the box - they can also confirm the two ropes are completely separate and independent from each other (not connected in any way). Just by closing the lid, and having two spectators hold tightly both ends of the two ropes and pull on them. Of course, the assumption is the two different colored ropes will be pulled right through the holes of the box - but in fact, the two ropes magically become connected - and a mini tug of war is created as both spectators attempt to pull their ropes out, but can't because they are connected!

What??? Just a few seconds ago the spectators could clearly see the inside of the box that showed the two ropes completely independent?

You want a strong close? Put either of the two ropes in the box with the ends exposed, now show a solid ring (which can also be examined) and simply toss it in the box. "Cha-Ching!" The performer opens the front side panel to reveal the magic - The Ring has penetrated the Rope!

The Box is examinable, made from beautiful mahogany wood and has two curtained openings, one on each side. There is also a trap door on top, as well as an opening panel in the front.

The performer shows a jumbo card and says it is a prediction. (They do not get to see his prediction) as he only holds it up with the back towards the audience and proclaims; "Tonight, before leaving for this show, I made a prediction here that is in my hands.......at the end of the routine, I hope my prediction will come true". He then places his prediction on the table, FACE down!

Then he invites a gentleman and a lady up to assist him with this demonstration. The deck is shown to be split into two parts! He asks them one at a time to each touch one in their respect halves, with the cards spread out. (In other words...he takes up one half of the deck for the first spectator to choose a card from, and then takes the other half of the deck for the remaining spectator to touch and select one...face down card. After the first spectator selects their card from one half, he instructs the remaining spectator to TRY to match the first card without looking at the cards, etc.

After the two cards are selected they are placed FACE down on the table. He then proclaims; "Wouldn't it be something IF each spectator did indeed match up without them knowing what each had selected?" "Would you give them a BIG applause if they did do this?" The audience always says..."Yes we will"! Then the performer asks; "IF my prediction that I showed you earlier matches their chosen halves...would you then give me a BIG applause as well?"...They say, "Yes we will"...Then the performer shows the first half of the card...and then shows the 2nd half of the card and WOW...they do NOT match?

"Oh dear exclaims the magician, I don't know what has happened? Or another tip from professional Kirby Van Burch is; "I hate it when I'm wrong........and I hate it when I'm right!" During its summer 1955 run, the It's Magic series brought some fantastic performers to television and filmed them in extended, uncut performances. In the show's brief life, entertainer Paul Tripp hosted top names like Roy Benson, Al Flosso, Fred Keating, Tommy and Betty Tucker, Kuda Bux, and comic A. Robins.

Long unseen, this It's Magic footage preserves invaluable renditions of Roy Benson performing his superb sleight-of-hand (including his famous Salt Pour and Chinese Sticks) in a faux naif character; the super-smooth second-sight code act of Tommy Tucker and Betty; the only surviving film of Fred Keating's trademark Needle Swallowing; Al Flosso in a great version of his Miser's Dream act; Kuda Bux's famed Blindfold Act; and the bizarre prop comedy of A. Robins.

The DVD includes all the original production numbers, additional illusions, and old-style promotional announcements.

All chapters on the DVD are accessible through a complete menu. This DVD was created in collaboration with William McIlhany.
