The book ‘Depicting Thoughts' describes the basic philosophy that led to the development of the PLF Picturecards, together with technical and presentational tips to enhance their convincing presentation during your mental performances.

At first the magician shows an empty box and closes the door, when he opens the box, appears two Crystal Cubes full of flowers! No mirror is used inside the box and you can show the inside completely to audience. The assistant is placed in a trance and is told to climb on a board that is resting on two screens and lie down flat. The magician stands behind the board and the screens are then removed causing the assistant to float in mid air. She is brought back into position and the screens replaced and she is brought out of the trance to conclude the effect.

EFFECT: A spectator places a regular size deck of cards in their pocket for a prediction. The performer then gives the spectator a JUMBO deck to shuffle & mix. He is then instructed to turn the deck face down and remove any FIVE cards, without looking at their faces, and place them on the stand, backs toward the audience. The performer takes a piece of chalk and draws a dot in the middle of the board above the cards and asks the spectator to draw a line from the dot to any one of the FIVE cards. Note: the construction is not butt jointed and it is also brass pinned. This style of construction has not been seen in magic props for many years.

The size is 3" x 5" x 1/2" outer dimensions and fits nicely in to a jacket pocket and includes, 3 1/8" x 5 1/2" manila coin envelopes (4) 3" x 5" blank index cards (4). The cards are blank so the prediction can be in your own handwriting.

Here is the basic effect: A envelope is laid upon the table and a person is asked to name a number from 1-16, the Mystery of Suanpan is removed from your jacket pocket and that bead is counted to. This selects the color. When the envelope is opened a match is found.

Here the really nice thing with this model the device flipping is done as it comes from the pocket, so there is no fumbling around, its clean and direct.

The real kicker is it retails for a phenomemal price - for a quality item made from cherry and brass with glass beads (bead colors may very depending on availability).

The Mystery of the Suanpan is based on the old principle first used in magic from my research in an effect called Nic's Napkins from Floyd Thayer circa 1922.

Over the years there have been a few (very few) effects that use this form in an effect. All of these that I have researched are only form the parlor or stage. This version can be used for any close up, street magic, ring meeting, table hopping (as you can repeat the effect with any of the four colors). Also a version exists that will allow you to force any two of the colors. A nice touch and a happy accident as this version does not show any recognizable pattern.

The Indonesian Prediction Box - is a beautiful box constructed from hard wood, with a dark smoky stain. Upon lifting the lid a tray is seen which houses four numbered squared blocks (also made from wood).

Upon lifting the tray (which contains all the four blocks of wood) a clearly seen unknown but pre-committed prediction (in the form of a folded small piece of paper) rests on the bottom of the box.

The tray is then placed back inside the box and the magi turns his back and asks any spectator to simply remove any one of the four numbers, and hold it tightly in their hands for a period of 5 seconds. After which, the magi instructs them to return the block to the tray, and let the magi know when it's okay to turn back around.

At this point the magi doesn't have to touch anything, and asks another spectator to remove the top tray again and also remove the prediction, unfold it and read it aloud.

Sure enough - in doing so - it matches exactly the numbered block the spectator was previously holding in their hands.

WHAT IS SILENT RUNNING? SILENT RUNNING is a "Think Of A Card" concept that requires no props at all. You don't even need a deck of cards. Any spectator is asked to THINK of any number from 1-10, and then asked to THINK of a suit (either Clubs, Hearts, Spades or Diamonds). She does ALL OF THIS IN HER HEAD-TELLING YOU NOTHING. In her MIND she combines the chosen number and suit to create the visual image of a playing card. Again, SHE SAYS NOTHING! Once it's confirmed that she is thinking of a card that NO ONE CAN POSSIBLY KNOW, you proceed to reveal it in any number of ways, including:

DIRECT MIND READ
You ask the spectator to concentrate. You then reveal her thought-of card with 100% accuracy. It's that simple. Once you know the method you'll be able to do this at ANY TIME, ANYWHERE! In fact, you'll be doing this for the rest of your life. It is that strong, practical and simple!

THE DISSOLVING CARD
The spectator is handed a deck of cards BEFORE YOU BEGIN. She is asked to think of a card WITHOUT SAYING ANYTHING. When she has confirmed that she has a card in her mind, you ask her to imagine it "slowly fading way". Upon confirming that her mental image is gone, she is asked to take the deck and to remove her thought-of card. She attempts to do this, and counts the cards. However, there are ONLY 51 cards and her thought-of card IS NOT PRESENT-IT HAS REALLY FADED INTO NOTHING! You NEVER touch the deck-in fact you never need to know her thought of card at all! Thanks to a clever Bob Cassidy idea, you can even do this with TWO spectators, having TWO cards DISSOLVE one after the other!

SPIRITED CARD STAB
A deck is shuffled by a spectator, spread upon the table, and covered with a sheet of newspaper. A knife is introduced and the spectator is asked to THINK OF A CARD. Once she has done this, she is asked to imagine the spirit of HER IMAGINED CARD flowing down her arms, through her wrists, into her hands and finally into the knife. AT NO TIME DOES SHE REVEAL HER THOUGHT OF CARD. The performer now takes the knife and lunges it through the newspaper-where it stands proud for all to see. Now, for the FIRST TIME, the spectator announces her thought-of card to the audience. The knife is ripped from the newspaper and is seen to be IMPALING THE VERY SAME CARD. There are no switches-the thought-of card is genuinely impaled on the knife blade!

This is a great stage item that will fill your stage! Produce four big flower pots from an empty cape. Imagine producing three flower pots that are each 4 feet wide and 2(1/2) feet tall. This item includes a cape, 3 big flower pots and each flower pot is consisted of 42 beautiful blooms.

The magician enters to the stage wearing a cape. He displays the cape from every side. He puts off the cape and again displays it empty to the audience.
