The Script: “Alas! Poor Yorick. I knew him well. A fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy; he hath borne me on his back a thousand times; and now, how abhorred in my afterimage he is!”
Well…. that’s what Hamlet said when holding The skull of Yorick in his hands.
What I would like you to do is to stare at the X in Yorick’s left eye socket for about 45 seconds, then look away at a flat surface such as a piece of paper, wall, ceiling or sky, and you will see Yorick’s ghostly apparition appear.
Methodology – Yorick’s skull is based off a very old optical illusion and created for the first time in wood that has been engraved. The main difference with this versus other paper version is that when this afterimage appears it is a but more muted in its color and looks even creeper.
The whole key to the effect is to have someone look at this wood board while staring at the x in Yorick left eye socket under good bright light source.
Technical Specifications: The wood board has a felt back and its size is roughly 3 3/4” by 4 3/8” with a hand rubbed varnish finish.
This size was chosen so it will fit in a standard shirt pocket making this simple illusion perfect for walk around and close up one on one work. In other words it is a pocket effect and a good one at that. Since this is an optical effect its prefect for walking up to someone and breaking the ice with them. Then later you can dazzle them with your other talents.
